The Open Network Foundation (ONF), AirHop, Facebook and the Telecommunications Infrastructure Project (TIP) have announced a new first in a multi-provider automated radio access network based on the O-RAN architecture. Part of ONF’s SD-RAN project, the collaboration supports a wide range of automation services in the form of software called xApps by O-RAN, which runs on a RAN intelligent controller (RIC).
